BUG Programme Launched at Catherine Hall Primary School

The Kiwanis Club of Montego Bay launched the local arm of Kiwanis International’s Bring Up Grades (BUG) programme at the Catherine Hall Primary School in St. James, on October 21.

This programme is a worldwide initiative by Kiwanis International, which is aimed at getting under-performing students in some primary schools to improve their grades in the core subjects – Mathematics, English Language, Social Studies and Communication Tasks.

THE MINISTRY of Education is spearheading a tree planting initiative in schools that is aimed at providing nutritional and economic benefits to students and institutions. Collaborating with Trees That Feed Foundation (TTFF), the Ministry of Agriculture, and several branches of the Rotary Club, the ministry recently launched Trees That Feed in Schools, in a ceremony at the Ocho Rios High School.

 NEI Encourages Schools to Listen to Students 

Research conducted by the National Education Inspectorate (NEI) has highlighted the need for local school leaders and teachers to accord more respect to the views of students. 

The NEI arrived at the position following the analysis of data from 26,000 primary and secondary students whose schools were inspected by its representatives. Based on the analysis, students are taking note of things in their environment and are willing to share their views on several issues, including conversations on how to improve their school.
