FST Staff Embark on Professional Development Journey for the 2024/2025 AY

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies, Mona commenced the 2024/2025 academic year with a “Ready, Set, Go - FST Staff Preparation Workshops" held from August 21-23, 2024. The sessions were designed to boost professional growth, enhance skills, and align staff efforts with the Faculty's broader vision of innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and student experience.

Highlights of the Workshops:

Town Hall Meeting: Faculty staff engaged in open discussions about the Faculty’s goals, objectives, and the path ahead. This collaborative session fostered alignment on priorities and allowed for transparent dialogue.

AI Training: Approximately 50 academic staff explored cutting-edge AI technologies and how these can be leveraged for innovative teaching and research. The session highlighted ways to integrate AI into the curriculum, positioning FST at the forefront of technological advancement in education.

Estate Management: Staff members gained insights into facilities management and optimization from the Estate Management Department.

Becoming a Better Teacher: This session offered practical strategies to enhance pedagogical skills, with the aim of improving student outcomes. By adopting more effective teaching techniques, staff are better prepared to engage students and elevate the quality of learning.

Promoting Student Well-being: In an effort to holistically support students, this workshop provided tools and strategies for addressing mental health and well-being, ensuring that students have the resources they need to thrive.

Safety and Security: A focus on campus safety underscored the importance of maintaining a secure environment for all. Staff were briefed on updated safety protocols and the steps being taken to ensure a secure and conducive academic setting.

Mastering UWI Online Systems: Staff honed their expertise in using critical online systems such as CAPP, VLE, and Microsoft tools. These platforms are essential for the smooth operation of the Faculty's teaching, learning, and administrative processes.

Additionally, staff members took part in several committee meetings, where collaborative efforts were made to streamline operations and work toward a successful academic year.

 FST remains dedicated to nurturing an environment of continuous growth, collaboration, and success. Through these efforts, the Faculty is well-positioned to lead with distinction in both education and research.
