UNESCO-UWI WIHFs team host Renewable Energy Expo at St. Thomas Technical High School

On June 13, 2024, The UNESCO-UWI Walking in Her Footsteps (WIFHs) mentorship program coordinated by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) successfully hosted a mini "Renewable Energy Expo" at the St. Thomas Technical High School as a way of contibuting to STEM Education through school engagement.

The expo featured educational sessions and interactive exhibits, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of energy conservation and renewable energy technologies. The event was further enriched by the presence of Miss Toni-Ann Hendricks, an alum of the Walking in Her Footsteps program. Miss Hendricks not only attended and participated in the expo but also brought her expertise.

A significant highlight of the event was the donation of a solar energy kit and a wind energy kit by the WIHFS team to St. Thomas Technical High School. These resources will play a crucial role in enhancing the school's curriculum on renewable energy.

The expo was well-received, with active participation from students who showed great enthusiasm and interest in the field of renewable energy. The event underscored the commitment of FST and UNESCO to fostering community engagement and advancing STEM education among young women.

WIHFs, a mentorship programme for young women at the tertiary level pursuing STEM degrees, was launched in 2022. To date, the programme has positively impacted approximately sixty (60) young women.
