In a significant stride towards fostering academic excellence and promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in Jamaica, the JPS Foundation proudly took on the role of primary title sponsor for the Annual CAPE Workshop in 2024. With a substantial investment of JMD16 million for a five-year period, the Foundation's support has not only rebranded the event as the JPS-UWI CAPE Workshop but has also ensured the sustainability, access, and continued success of this workshop.
The workshops organised by the Faculty held from January 8 to 12 in Kingston and January 15 to 16 in Montego Bay, attracted an impressive participation of approximately 1830 students from 51 schools across Jamaica. The initiative aimed to supplement students’ theoretical and practical knowledge in Chemistry, Computer Science, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. The Kingston sessions had daily engagement from the JPS Foundation team members. Notably, they brought an Electric Vehicle to the Mona Campus, providing students with a hands-on opportunity to explore the future of sustainable technology.
The JPS-UWI CAPE Workshop not only serves as a platform for academic enrichment but also acts as a catalyst for expanding students' horizons. By bringing together a diverse group of young minds from various schools, the initiative fosters collaboration, networking, and a shared passion for STEM subjects. As the JPS-UWI CAPE Workshop paves the way for a brighter future in STEM education, it also sets a precedent for other organizations to actively contribute to the intellectual development of Jamaica's youth.
