HEALTH INSURANCE

  • There is compulsory enrollment on the health insurance plans for all students and staff members.
  • The health insurance plan for students has been designed with special features to ensure that it is inexpensive while providing the needed coverage to all students of UWI, Mona Campus. In order to accesses the benefits under the plan students must obtain their medical services and prescription drugs at the UHC or at public hospitals in Jamaica
  • Students pay a standard minimal annual premium which is included in their miscellaneous fees.
  • Staff members pay premiums based on the option chosen from the following plans:
    • Employee Only
    • Employee + One Dependent
    • Employee + Multiple Dependents

The premium for staff is subsidized by the University with staff paying the difference through payroll deductions which are done monthly.

The UHC facilitates coordination of benefits (COB), which means that if you have more than one health insurance card, including NHF and JADEP, your payment can be allocated among them to reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket payment. The Human Resources Management Division coordinates all enrollment of employees and their dependents on the University health scheme.
