The Jamaican Censuses of 1844 and 1861
Ed. by B. W. Higman

The Jamaican population censuses of 1844 and 1861 were the first taken after emancipation.  This edition reproduces statistical data as well as manuscript material in full.  These data provide important material for a far more detailed picture of Post-Emancipation Jamaica than historians have previously been able to achieve.
