In memory of a remarkable man - Tribute from UWI Vice Chancellor

The University of the West Indies joins in extending deepest condolences to the Government and people of South Africa on the death of former President Nelson Mandela.
One of the most remarkable human beings of this century, Nelson Mandela showed the world the true meaning of strength in the face of adversity. His struggle for equal rights for South Africans, black and white, remains a clarion call for all mankind to acknowledge and embrace the fact that we are all one human race.
UWI Mona salutes Nelson Mandela - 1918 - 2013

STATEMENT
The University of the West Indies, Mona, notes with regret, the passing of the Hon. Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa and Honorary Graduate of the UWI, Mona Campus.
The University recalls with great pleasure his visit to the Mona Campus on July 24, 1991 when he was conferred with an honorary degree - Doctor of Laws (LLD).
In light of this, the UWI flags will be flown at half-mast on Friday, December 6, 2013 (today) and on the day of his funeral.

UWI Students and Staff – a scholarship could be yours!

The ANGLE, DREAM and MUNDUS ACP 2 Projects will grant scholarships to students from Caribbean countries and staff members of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) to undertake a mobility period or full degree at some of the best universities in Europe.
Scholarships are available for Master's and Doctorate students and also for staff members of The UWI.
Scholarships include a monthly allowance, travel, insurance and tuition fees (where applicable).

Gore Grants Nine Scholarships to UWI Mona

Nine students at The University of the West Indies, Mona will benefit from 3.5 million dollars in scholarships for the 2013/2014 academic year provided by housing developers Gore Developments Limited.
Gore Developments Limited provided the scholarships for six students at the undergraduate level and three students who are pursuing Masters of Science Degrees at The UWI Mona. The students are Antoinettte Harris, Corey Lindner, Shavonique Morrison, Oswald Robinson, Theophilus Nelson, Serena Harjani, Sherona Forrester, Rushaine Goulbourne and Shelly-Ann Wilson. The areas of study for the recipients are Economics, Tourism Management, Banking and Finance, Management Studies, Accounting and Medicine & Surgery.
MSBM receives small grant from United States Embassy

The United States Embassy has awarded a small grant of US$15 000 to the University of the West Indies' Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM).
The grant which was handed over by United States Ambassador Her Excellency Pamela Bridgewater on October 11, was awarded in support of capacity building in administrative processes, research, teaching and learning at the MSBM, and to assist in creating a world class school of business.
UWI Mona Accounting students to secure work experience under new MOU

A collaborative initiative between The University of the West Indies(UWI) and the public and private sectors is offering accounting students at the Mona School of Business & Management (MSBM) the opportunity to graduate with a skill and experience level a cut above the rest.
This collaboration has resulted in the launch of the The UWI Accounting Co-op Programme which took place on Tuesday 5 November, 2013. The programme responds to the demand for ‘experienced’ graduates by aligning students with partner companies to gain invaluable work experience as well as the opportunity to earn as they study.
UWI Mona to expand Western Jamaica campus

The University of the West Indies Mona’s Western Jamaica campus is to be expanded and upgraded to international standard, Principal of The UWI, Mona Campus, Professor Archibald McDonald has announced.
Principal McDonald made the disclosure during his inaugural speech at his Induction ceremony on October 29.
He said it his intention to expand the scope of programmes being offered at The UWI Mona Western Jamaican Campus (WJC) in order to attract more international students to the University.
UWI Mona’s Dr Tannecia Stephenson appointed to Global Science Team

Dr. Tannecia Stephenson, lecturer in the Department of Physics and a member of the Climate Studies Group, Mona, was recently appointed by the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) as a member of the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) Science Advisory Team (CORDEX-SAT) and will serve a three year term starting in 2014.
UWI conducts first telemedicine broadcast across 3 campuses

The first telemedicine broadcast by the University of the West Indies, UWI, using the region's only dedicated research and education network, C@ribNET, was conducted on Wednesday November 6, 2013. The telecast originated from the Hugh Wynter Fertility Management Unit (HWFMU) at the Mona Campus and was broadcast to medical students and faculty at the Open Campus sites in Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados. The HWFMU has been a hub for the promotion and advancement of Sexual and Reproductive Health (S&RH) for the past 30 years.
