UWI graduates first set of Sports Physiotherapists

The University of the West Indies presented the first Sports Physiotherapists produced in the West Indies at their graduation ceremony in November 2013. This represents the first post graduate degree in physiotherapy produced by the UWI. The Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine – Physiotherapy is offered through collaboration by the Division of Sports Medicine and Section of Physiotherapy at UWI Mona, and complements the Masters of Sports Medicine Programme for Physicians which has been producing Sports Medicine Physicians at UWI Mona for some time.
 

UWI, Mona Faculty of Medical Sciences 22nd Annual Research Conference and Workshop November 6 – 8

The Faculty of Medical Sciences, the University of the West Indies, Mona will hold its Twenty Second Annual Research Conference and Workshop from November 6-8 at the Faculty of Medical Sciences Teaching and Research Complex beginning at 8.00 a.m. daily.  The theme of this year’s Conference and Workshop is “Affairs of the Heart”.
 
 
The Sir Kenneth Standard Distinguished Lecture will be given by Professor Augustus Grant, Past President of the American Heart Association and Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical School. 
 
 

UWI Mona presents Class of 2013 at colourful Graduation Ceremonies

More than 3200 members of The University of the West Indies Mona Campus’ Class of 2013 were presented and officially welcomed into the society of graduates by Chancellor Sir George Alleyne during four ceremonies on November 1 and 2.
 
The colourful and solemn ceremonies were marked by the procession of Graduates, the procession of Academics and senior administrative staff, and finally the Chancellor's procession which included all campus principals, pro vice chancellors, the Chair of the Mona Campus Council, honorary graduand, Deans and other members of the University hierarchy. The University Singers and the UWI Panordim Steel Orchestra provided entertainment.

New UWI Mona Principal outlines transformational global agenda

Principal of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus, Professor Archibald McDonald has signalled his intention to expand the University’s academic reach to the wider global society through learning and knowledge networks.

In delivering his inaugural address at his Induction Ceremony as Principal on October 29th at The UWI Mona campus, Professor McDonald said he is determined to continue along the University’s present path of embracing science and technology in the discipline of education, noting that technology in education has evolved considerably throughout the decades into a necessary and intrinsic facet of the global education system.

UWI Mona’s Cardiac Simulator goes into commercial production

Research to become centerpiece of transformational agenda at UWI Mona
The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus is expected to earn revenues and global recognition as a centre for innovation, after signing a contract with a North American Company for the commercial production of its celebrated Cardiac Simulator innovation.
 
The announcement was made by newly installed Principal of The UWI Mona campus, Professor Archibald McDonald who took the opportunity to outline a transformational agenda for the Mona campus at his Induction Ceremony on October 29th at Mona. 
 

More than 3000 scheduled to graduate from UWI Mona this weekend

More than 3000 students of the University of the West Indies will graduate in four Ceremonies scheduled for Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 at The UWI Mona.  The Presentation of Graduates will be hosted at the Graduation Tent located on the lawns of the Senate Building.
 

UWI Mona Principal to be inducted Oct. 29

Professor Archibald McDonald will be formally inducted as Principal of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus at a  ceremony to take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 6.00 p.m. in the Graduation Tent on the lawns of the Senate Building.

UWI Mona initiates a National Heritage Month

The University of the West Indies (UWI) National Heritage Month Committee has joined with the Western Jamaican Campus to extend their Heritage Week activities into a brand new UWI-designated National Heritage Month of initiatives.
