Student Awards Ceremony

The Office of Student Services, UWI Mona will host the Annual Student Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Assembly Hall on the Mona Campus. The ceremony is designed to recognise students who have received scholarships and bursaries to attend the UWI, as well as the donors of these awards. It will also recognise students who have excelled in co-curricular activities, service and leadership. The Guest Speaker at the ceremony will be Mr. Christian Stokes, Snr.

The Social History Project: Celebrating 25 Years

The Department of History and Archaeology has mounted an exhibition in the Catalogue Hall of the Main Library, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its Social History Project (the SHP). The exhibition, under the theme, The Social History Project: Celebrating 25 Years, highlights the work of the SHP over the years, and outlines its current programme. It also features Dr. Joy Lumsden’s research on the Jamaican black middle class of the late 19th and early 20th century. The exhibition runs from April 2 to April 30.

Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme

The Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme organised by the Office of Placement and Career Services at UWI Mona began on Monday March 29 and continues until April 23 at UWI Mona. The programme allows employers who require candidates to fill permanent vacancies in their organisations to interview graduating students. Already Twenty Five companies have booked interviews with students and additional companies are expected.

Biennial Conference on Education

The School of Education, UWI Mona will host a conference on Education with the theme Celebrating Achievements in Caribbean Education: Transformation, Diversity and Collaboration, to be held at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande Hotel, Ocho Rios from April 15-17, 2004. Teachers and other educators are invited to attend. The conference registration fee is $4000.00, students $2000.00 and daily registration fee is $1500.00, students $750.00. Call for Papers Faculty of Medical Sciences’ Annual Research Conference 2004

Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the Faculty of Medical Sciences Annual Research Conference to be held November 10 to 12, 2004. The conference venue is the Main Medical Lecture Theatre in the Faculty. A number of conference prizes are available as well as other prizes for students. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is July 31, 2004. Registration for the conference is at 8:00 a.m. each day and there is no cover charge. Campus Security Services

Owing to an upsurge in motor car break-ins, Campus Security Services is reminding motorists on the Mona Campus not to leave their valuables such as handbags, books, parcels, in plain sight inside their locked vehicles. Valuable items may be secured in the trunk of the vehicle but motorists are advised that where possible, this should be done prior to parking on the Campus.

Child Health and Development Conference

As part of its contribution to Child Health activities, the Section of Child Health, Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI Mona and the Department of Child Health, University Hospital of the West Indies will hold their first annual Child Health and Development Conference from May 1-2 at the Faculty of Medical Sciences Lecture Theatre. The theme for the conference is Child Neurology for Practitioners.

Conference on Gender, Social Work and Social Policy

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, in recognition of forty years of sterling service given by Mrs. Hermione McKenzie, retired lecturer in the Department, wishes to pay tribute to this outstanding social scientist by hosting a conference in her honour. This is scheduled for Friday, June 25 in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre. The theme of the conference is Gender, Social Work and Social Policy. Graduation Video Tapes and Photographs

UWI Graduates, who are interested in video tapes of the 2003 Graduation Ceremonies, may contact the Public Relations Office at 977-5941/935-8348/935-8692. The cost is $1200 per copy of the tape for the particular day you graduated. We also would like to remind graduates who took graduation photographs over the past fifteen (15) years, that they may be collected between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Fridays from the Public Relations Office, Gibraltar Hall Road, Mona Campus.

Library Inaugural Awards Presentation Ceremony

As part of its programme to recognize outstanding performance, to motivate staff towards higher levels of productivity, and to build morale, the Library at UWI Mona held its first awards ceremony on March 22, 2004 in its Multifunctional Room. The Customer Service Group, led by Ms. Sandra Stubbs, received the Library Team Excellence Award for achieving quality improvement to systems, processes and services in the Library while Mr. Anthony Bushay received the Bold Idea Award for contributing an idea that has improved services and is income generating.
