Congratulations Paulette Chevannes
Paulette Chevannes, Director of Change From Within Programme, was honoured on June 3 in Long Island, USA at the Annual Fundraising Dinner of the Research Committee of Jamaica (RCJ). The RCJ is a voluntary organization comprised of New York –based Jamaica educators, including college professors, high school principals, senior administrators and others.
Embracing Nanotechnology
Renowned Nanotechnologist, Professor David Hui, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Orleans, USA, will be the key presenter at a seminar entitled “Nano-Mechanics of Composite Materials.” The seminar takes place on Monday, June 25 at 1 pm at the Physiology Lecture Theatre, Department of Basic Medical Sciences. The presentation will involve discussions on nano-materials technology from the point of view of nano-engineering, composite materials nano-fabrication, applications in harsh environments and in humanitarian aid projects.

Medical Sciences Annual Research Conference
The Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI, Mona will host its 16th Annual Research Conference from November 14-16 at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre. Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the Conference. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, July 31 by e-mail at fmsarc@uwimona.edu.jm.

The United Theological College Fund-Raising Dinner
The United Theological College of the West Indies has been celebrating its forthieth anniversary this year. As apart of the celebration a Fundraising Dinner will be held at the United Theological College of the West Indies on Friday, June 29 at 7 pm in order to assist in efforts to expand the Graduate School.
The University Singers Concert Season 2007
The University Singers Concert Season will end on Sunday, July 1 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI. The show times are Thursdays – Saturdays, 8:00 pm and on Sundays 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The 2007 Concert season features the choir presenting a wide repertoire, inclusive of classical, spiritual, gospel, folk, reggae and calypso.

Tribute to Elizabeth Williams, University Archivist
The University of the West Indies community is deeply saddened by the death on June 17, of University Archivist, Elizabeth Williams. Miss Williams joined the staff of the University as University Archivist in May 2002 after a long and successful career with the Jamaica Archives & Records Department, where she rose through several positions to become Government Archivist (1987 – 2002), succeeding her teacher and mentor, Mr Clinton Black.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Day”
The University Health Centre will be hosting “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” on Thursday, June 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Mobile Mammography Unit of the Jamaica Cancer Society will be providing mammography services as well as educational videos, brochures and an opportunity to discuss your concerns about breast cancer with the medical staff.

4th Annual Caribbean Philosophical Association (CPA) Conference
The Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, Institute of Caribbean Studies and the Centre for Caribbean Thought, as a part of The Caribbean Philosophical Association (CPA) will host the Fourth CPA Conference from June 27-29, at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
