Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) congratulates 2nd year MSc Accounting student, Sherece Hamilton-Griffiths, who this year is awarded the Kenneth Chung Memorial MSc Accounting Scholarship.

The Scholarship, offered by the Chung family in memory of patriarch Kenneth Chung is administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) and was established specifically for second year MSBM MSc Accounting students who meet the criteria including, Jamaican nationality and academic performance in year one of the Programme. Following the announcement of the scholarship, applicants were shortlisted by MSBM and the awardee chosen by a panel comprised of representatives from the ICAJ, the Chung Family and MSBM. MSc Accounting student, Sherece Hamilton-Griffiths, was the top contender and was selected for the scholarship valued at J$250,000.

A small Awards Ceremony was held on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the offices of the ICAJ, in which the winner was announced, and a presentation made to Mrs. Hamilton-Griffiths. In attendance were representatives from the ICAJ and MSBM, members from the Chung family, last year’s recipients, and the family of Mrs. Hamilton-Griffiths.

Allison Peart, President of the ICAJ, expressed that one of the best gifts to give to an individual is education. She noted that persons who knew Kenneth Chung knew his value for education, therefore, this memorial scholarship is fitting to highlight his legacy. She charged this year’s scholarship recipient to embrace the generosity for which Mr. Chung will be remembered. “Excellence was his hallmark and he admired this in others”, she expressed.

Dennis Chung, past president of the ICAJ and son of Kenneth Chung, expressed his pleasure in his family providing the scholarship for a second year. He noted that after his father’s passing, the best way to honour his memory was by providing a scholarship to young people. He highlighted that Mr. Chung, a self-taught accountant, started working at the age of 12 to support his siblings. As a result, the family also found it fit to provide the scholarship to someone in need who also is experiencing financial struggles.

Congratulations to our student recipient of the Kenneth Chung Memorial MSc Accounting Scholarship 2021!
