Congratulations to Ambassador Ralph Thomas, Senior Teaching Fellow of Mona School of Business and Management on being nominated from a cohort of distinguished graduates to receive the prestigious 2022 Pelican Award.
The Pelican Award is presented annually to a graduate of The University of the West Indies who (a) has received outstanding recognition in his/her career field nationally, regionally or internationally or made exceptional contributions to his/her profession over a sustained period, and (b) who has demonstrated exceptional personal or professional contributions, dedication and commitment to the goals and objectives of the UWI through their consistent and continuous contributions of time, talent, or resources. Ambassador Thomas was nominated because of his exemplary achievements in the foregoing criteria and in the fields of Banking, Academia, and Diplomacy.
The Pelican Award was presented on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the American Foundation for The UWI, Twenty-Fifth Annual Legacy Award Gala was held at 583 Park Avenue, New York. According to the Executive Director of the Foundation Ms. Ann-Marie Grant, “a hallmark of the Gala is the presentation of coveted awards to outstanding individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the national and global community and exceeded international standards of ethics, outreach, and service. Our theme for this year’s Gala was: Together, through our resilience and determination, we can conquer any adversity.
When contacted Ambassador Thomas responded that “I am deeply honoured to accept the nomination for the prestigious Pelican Award of the University conferred by my esteemed colleagues of the UWIAA and the American Foundation of the UWI, which is the principal fundraising arm of the University. I remain grateful to the University for the life-shaping experiences which have allowed me to make an impact locally and globally and to provide inspiration to students of the University facing the challenges of a global environment.”
