The Kenneth Chung Memorial Scholarship continues to honour the legacy of the late Mr. Kenneth Chung by transforming the lives of outstanding accounting students who embody perseverance, integrity, and academic excellence. This year’s awardee, Rojesta Cheese-Jackson, reflects the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the scholarship’s purpose.
As the youngest of six children and the first in her family to attend university, Rojesta views education as both a lifeline and a pathway to generational change. While pursuing her MSc in Accounting, she balances the responsibilities of raising two sons, managing her household, and supporting her spouse through a career transition.
Rojesta was officially presented with the award by Dennis Chung, son of the late Kenneth Chung during an awards ceremony held at the office of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAJ) during which ICAJ President Ms Sharon Donaldson also offered her congratulations.
Representing the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), Dr Twila-Mae Logan, Deputy Executive Director reminded the recipient of the evolving demands of the profession, “As technology transforms this field, your role becomes even more dynamic, demanding critical and strategic thinking—not just calculation. Remember, AI can do all the number crunching for us.”
For Rojesta, the scholarship represents not just support, but hope. “Receiving the Kenneth Chung Memorial Scholarship is not the end of my journey; it is a powerful new beginning,” she shared. “It reassures me that I do not walk this path alone, there are individuals and institutions willing to invest in my future, my family, my community, and our country, Jamaica.
Launched in 2020, the Kenneth Chung memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the family of the late Kenneth Chung in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAJ), is awarded annually to a second year Master of Science in Accounting student at MSBM.
