This course introduces the student to pharmacological sciences with respect to drug origin and administration. It exposes students to the legal and ethical responsibility and accountability inherent in the nursing functions related to the administration of drugs, as well as the cultural, social and psychological aspects of drug therapy. Emphasis is placed on safety and accuracy in administering prescribed medication dosages to persons throughout the life cycle and along the wellness-illness continuum. To successfully complete this course students are required to demonstrate 100% safety in drug administration and management during clinical practice.
