Office of Student Recruitment (Undergraduate)

If your child is having a difficult time

  1. Try not to panic; it’s common for students to go through highs and lows during University years.
  2. Students are more likely to share their lows with you, their parents, because they feel safe and secure with you. Students don’t always call back to say everything is better.
  3. Encourage your child to seek the advice of one of our trained Counsellors, Students Services Manager (if residing on campus), academic advisor or a lecturer.
  4. Encourage your child to stick it out, at least until the end of the semester.
  5. Remember that lack of sleep, anxiety about exams or papers, and even developing friendships, can be seasonal and may improve with time.
  6. If you are really concerned about your child’s health or mental well-being, encourage him or her to go to the Health Center.
  7. If you suspect your child is in a serious crisis and may need intervention for his or her own safety, immediately contact the Hall of Residence Student Services Manager or the Campus Police.
