Abstract:

In the modern world, one of the major means of storing written information and subsequently gaining access to it, is the computer. With some Caribbean Creole Languages like Haitian and Papiamentu already having officially entered the written domain, and many likely to follow, the question of the relationship between these languages and modern computer technology becomes quite relevant. The report focuses on the ways in which Caribbean Creole languages can (i) become the linguistic medium by which speakers gain access to the services provided by the modern micro-computer and (ii) be more effectively spread to the public-formal and written domain by the use of this technology.
