Abstract:

“Strategies for Human Capacity Development in the Caribbean: TVET Approaches” is a special issue of the Caribbean Journal of Education (CJE) that emanates from the first international conference on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Human Capacity Development that was held in Jamaica during March 4–6, 2012 and which addressed mainstreaming TVET in the Caribbean. The publication of this current issue signals the importance of the development of TVET at the tertiary level and the preparation of the workforce to effectively engage in addressing the economic challenges faced by countries in the Caribbean and other developing regions as a whole. As we embrace a greater quality focus in TVET, the publication of this special issue is part of the ongoing effort being made by the School of Education of The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona to develop postgraduate programmes to support high quality TVET in the region. It is anticipated that this effort will produce a cadre of persons to provide leadership for TVET in both education and at the workplaces in the Caribbean.
