Compiled by Pam Mordecai (First Book) and Zellynne Jennings-Wray (Second and Third Books), this series of three readers will be welcomed by teachers looking for interesting and challenging reading material for children in the upper grades of primary and preparatory and the lower grades of secondary and high schools.
Aimed at the age range 9-12, they presuppose the ability of children to tackle the decoding aspect of reading. Although this should be well within the capability of children in Grades 4-6 the reality of a sizeable number of the school population being far below this level of competence must limit the possibility of these books being used to their full extent within this age-range in at least one West Indian island. Fortunately, the content of the books is such that if used with older children they could in no way be viewed as insulting to the readers.
