The historiography of education in the West Indies is still undeveloped. The student of the history of education in the English speaking West Indies has, up to now, a very limited range of texts from which to choose; Shirley Gordon's two documentary works and John Figueroa's Society, Schools and Progress in the West Indies being the ones most readily available. This account of the history of education in Jamaica is a useful addition to the range. It has the added advantage over the books by Gordon and Figueroa of bringing the story for Jamaica up to date.
