The Effect of a Programme of Teacher Training on the Development of Mathematical Thinking in a Group of 4-Year-Old Children

Abstract: 

A case study designed to correct deficiency in teaching and learning mathematics at the basic school level was carried out with one teacher and five students in a rural Jamaican basic school. The results showed that training led to improvement in the children's learning environment and in the teacher's content knowledge and approach to teaching mathematics, and that children displayed observable development of mathematical thinking.
