Abstract:

This study investigated whether the engagement of 10h grade students in practical work, as a supplement to their being taught by a combination of the lecture method and teacher's demonstrations, had any effect on their attitudes to chemistry and their knowledge of acids and bases. Data were collected by means of an attitude to chemistry questionnaire and a test of knowledge of acids and bases. Results indicated that, between an experimental and a control group, there were no statistically significant differences in post-test mean scores on acids and bases linked to treatment and attitudes to chemistry. However, in the experimental group, there was a positive, statistically significant but weak relationship between treatment, post-test attitudes to chemistry, and test scores on acids and bases.
