Abstract:

This volume is one of 18 in a series, “Education around the World”, (series editor, Colin Brock), that looks at “education across virtually every territory in the world” with a view to providing “an insight to the field of international and comparative education” (Thomas 2014, vii). The editor of this volume titled Education in the Commonwealth Caribbean and Netherlands Antilles, Dr. Emel Thomas, stated that this volume is “concerned mainly with the impact and development of education in Caribbean countries” (p. 2) and therefore aims to “showcase education development and the latest debates on education” across the region (p. 3). The strategy for achieving this aim was to invite professionals and academics to “showcase the nature of education in Caribbean countries of which they have experience and/or knowledge of working closely in the field” (p. 9). To this end, the book includes 23 contributions from 21 countries across the region with representation from all the Caribbean Commonwealth territories and the Netherlands Antilles.
