Distance education in general and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)-based learning in particular have increased access to and expanded formal education for those who, due to situational and institutional factors, were formerly unable to participate in postsecondary education. However, ICT-based learning in Adult Education is not without its challenges. The qualitative case study which informed this paper sought to identify some of these challenges and examined the strategies employed by learners and their facilitators to address those challenges.

This paper discusses the technical, humanistic, and critical paradigms presented by Plumb and Welton (2001) in making the case that all three dimensions are essential to the education of individuals who will function effectively in a context of rapid social and technological change and numerous social problems.

Technical and vocational education has become a strong focus area for Caribbean countries as they seek to advance their social and economic status in the globally competitive market. Given this context, schools in the Caribbean offer technical and vocational education and training (TVET) subjects to students from various examining bodies. This paper looks at how schools in Jamaica are doing in TVET in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations and the leadership and management principles and practices used in administering TVET in selected top performing schools.
