V. S. Reid Exhibition

 

The University of the West Indies Mona Library marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jamaican author Victor Stafford Reid with an exhibition on his life and works.

In addition to being a writer Reid held several posts in the Jamaican government, including Chairman of the Jamaica National Trust Commission, and a Trustee of the Historic Foundation Research Centre in Kingston. He won a number of awards including, Silver Musgrave Medal in the field of Literature , the Non-resident Canada Fellowship, the Gold Musgrave Medal in the field of Literature , the Order of Jamaica as well as the Norman Manley Foundation Award for Excellence for his contribution to Literature in Jamaica.

The Library also houses the Vic Reid Collection. This collection is comprised of correspondence, manuscripts, essays, photographs, his-torical data, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, brochures, newsletters, magazines, pam-phlets, scripts of radio broadcasts, film outlines and screen plays, remarks, diary entries and diaries used as note book. In addition it contains research materials from 1947-1987 especially those relating to Norman Manley’ biography Horses of the Morning.
