Kemoi “Locksmith” Burke

Period: 2008 – 2011

Nationality: Jamaican

Involvements: Cultural & Entertainment Affairs Committee (CEAC) Chairman (2yrs)

Through the gates I entered in August 2008, an unpolished and unfinished article; ready to be molded through experiences. However, I was unaware of the plethora opportunities that Preston would afford me.

The orientation process encouraged us to live for each other through the message “One band. One Sound”.

As the months passed I improved my skills from being a good rice cook to my now famous Shrimp/Chicken Alfredo. Somewhere in the middle there was Fried Chicken, then Bar-B-Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes that could win the hearts of many! From a kitchen novice to Chef Burkie, all thanks must be given to the friends I met and the family nature of Aston Preston Hall.

But it doesn't stop there. Numerous avenues were provided through which I had opportunities to further develop skills that I now use in the world of work. Event Planning and Management, Proposal Writing, Team Management, Team Playing and Peer Counseling are only but a few of life skills that were either learned or further developed over the three years I spent on this prestigious hall.

As Prestonites, we shared a symbiotic relationship.

As the CEAC Chairman I guided the committee to stage two very important events: Mask-A-Raid, an entertainment event which rivaled UWI Carnival; and Talents' Palav, which was initiated to showcase the talents of Prestonites past, present and future.

My further involvements in numerous sports, hosting Shark Radio, and being fully engrossed in the hall helped me to develop camaraderie, boldness, a great deal of patriotism and undying love for Aston Preston Hall!
