DM Haematology/Oncology

Qualifications for Entry

Candidates should have full medical registration and, if a local graduate, must have completed a year of service as a Senior House Officer (SHO) at an approved institution. Referees’ reports and transcripts must be provided and considered satisfactory by the specialty board for acceptance.

Candidates with DM Internal Medicine or its equivalent may also join and be exempt from the 2 year Internal Medicine rotation

Course of Study

The DM Haematology and Medical Oncology programme is a five (5) year programme which is delivered at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus (in collaboration with the University Hospital of the West Indies).

It comprises blocks of rotation through:

  • Haematology/Oncology (first 6 months)
  • Internal Medicine ( DM I Internal Medicine – 2 years) followed by a return to Haematology/Oncology after successful completion of the DM I Internal Medicine to complete the remainder of the programme duration.
  • Mandatory three (3) month rotation in Anatomical Pathology
  • Research elective period is also included for which completion of a thesis is required as partial fulfilment of the requirements for the DM Haematology and Medical Oncology degree, which should be submitted six (6) months prior to the final exit exam.
