The Department of Physics and the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) Foundation's eDrive Project have collaborated to perform research and development (R&D) that focuses on advancing Jamaica's electric mobility (e-mobility) thrust. This is in the form of an internship that runs from September to November 2024.
The interns who are engaged under this partnership are Kevaughn Williams (BSc. Electronics & Computer Science), Shalise Petrie (BSc. Electronics & Alternative Energy Systems), Andre Cunningham (BSc. Electronics & Computer Science), and Kevaughn Turnbull (BSc. Electronics & Alternative Energy Systems).
The project aims to: (1) assess the performance of Electric Vehicles (EVs) on Jamaican roads using actual vehicle data and software that is developed in-house, and (2) research and propose EV battery-related policies that are needed to ensure the sustainable development of the electric mobility industry, considering especially end-of-life factors where batteries are concerned.
The interns are being supervised by Dr. Louis-Ray Harris, who is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics. An orientation session for this internship project was held on Friday September 13, 2024 at the JPS headquarters on Knutsford Boulevard.
