“Africa to the World: A Post-Genomic Roadmap for Genetic Diseases in the Diaspora”
Presenter: Dr. Cheryl Stewart
Dr. Stewart was a student of the Biotechnology Centre and is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Cellular & Molecular Medicine at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She was awarded her Ph.D in Biotechnology from the University of the West Indies and previously worked in the field of molecular plant virology with a number of papers published in this area. She is co-inventor on a patent application relating to cystic fibrosis diagnostics.

9th Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture
Chair of the Department of English at the University at Albany, State University of New York, Professor Glyne Griffith, will deliver the 9th Annual Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture this Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 11a.m in the Philip Sherlock Centre, University of the West Indies, Mona. His lecture is entitled “How BBC Radio Served West Indian Literature: 1943-1958.” The event is hosted by the Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona Campus.

The Mona Law Institutes Unit (MLIU) and Street Law Caribbean will be hosting a Public Lecture on 23 November 2015. This will be facilitated by Professor David McQuoid-Mason, President of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association; and Professor of Law, Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of KwaZuluNatal, Durban, South Africa. The title of the presentation is “Medical Law, Ethics and Public Legal Education – a Symbiotic Relationship”.

Mona Law Institutes Unit Public Lecture: The Caribbean Arbitration Landscape: Progress and Prospects
Professor Rajoo is the Director of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA). He is a Chartered Arbitrator with over 200 local and international appointments, and panel member of numerous international arbitral institutions and organisations. He is also an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya (non-practising), a professional architect, and a Registered Town Planner. Professor Rajoo has an Honorary Doctorate in Laws from the Leeds Beckett University, UK, and will become President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in 2016.
