SYMPOSIUM ON “UWI SHAPING THE FUTURE OF OUR HUMAN RESOURCES”

The role of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in developing human capital in the region will be the focus of a symposium for employers, educators and students scheduled for Thursday, February 26 at the Undercroft of the Senate Building on the Mona campus. Increasing globalisation and the dynamics of the world of work pose challenges to educators, and the UWI in particular, in attempting to meet the complexities of job market requirements.

One of Jamaica’s leading Cultural Icons is appealing to students at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies to acknowledge the important connection between the Indian and African races.
The call was issued by Mrs. Amina Blackwood-Meeks, storyteller and communication specialist on Thursday (January 5), while delivering the feature address at the 2nd annual Rex Nettleford Hall Dinner.

“Nurses Challenging Health Issues Through Research” is the theme of the 16th Annual Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day to be held by the Department of Advanced Nursing Education, University of the West Indies (UWI) at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, May 13 & 14, 2004.
The highlight of this conference will be the launch of the Mary Seivwright Distinguished Nursing Research Lecture by Dr. Carol Baxter, Professor of Nursing at the School of Health and Social Sciences and Head of the Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Research and Development, Middlesex University.
International Focus on Accrediting Jamaican Social Workers

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work will be one of three sponsors of a one-day seminar entitled, “Social Work Accreditation: Improving and Strengthening the Profession”, on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 on the UWI Mona campus. The other sponsors are the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the Jamaica Association of Social Workers (JASW). Mr. Victor Cummings, Member of Parliament, will speak at the opening exercise scheduled for 9 a.m. in the Executive Lecture Theatre, Mona School of Business.
RESTORING TRUST IN CORPORATIONS

Wright, the Professor of Human Resource Studies at the Centre for Advanced Human Resource Studies, Cornell University.

Medical Students Receive Canadian Scholarships

Four students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of the West Indies have been awarded scholarships which will assist them in meeting expenses associated with their academic programme.
