THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES, MONA CAMPUS - FEE PAYMENT GUIDELINES

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, wishes to advise that all tuition fees for the second semester of the 2004-2005 academic year become due and payable at the start of the semester, i.e. by January 16, 2005. Registration without penalty is allowed up to January 21. Late registration after January 21 is allowed up to January 28, but students are subject to a late registration fee of J$1000 as well as a fine of one (1) per cent on the amount of fees outstanding.

NORMA MCFARLANE ANDERSON PROMOTED TO PROFESSOR

The University of the West Indies is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Norma McFarlane Anderson, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences (Biochemistry Section) in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Mona Campus to the rank of Professor, with effect from October 13, 2004.

RALPH ROBINSON PROMOTED TO PROFESSOR

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Ralph Robinson, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Mona Campus to the rank of Professor with effect from October 13, 2004.

A native of Northern Ireland, Professor Robinson holds the Bachelor of Science degree with Upper Second Class Honours in Zoology and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from The Queen’s University, Belfast, UK.

UWI Regrets the passing of Herman McKenzie

The University of the West Indies is saddened by the death of Mr. Herman I. McKenzie, retired Senior Lecturer and former Head of the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mona Campus, on December 25, 2004.

UWI SCORES A ‘FIRST’ WITH E-COMMERCE FACILITY

The Mona Campus of The University of the West Indies became the first educational institution within the island and the first in the UWI network to offer an electronic commerce facility when the system was officially launched at the Undercroft of the Senate building on the campus on Thursday, December 2. E-commerce, or electronic commerce, means conducting business online.

F&GPC, MONA APPROVES FEE PAYMENT POLICY

The Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) of The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus has approved a Fee Payment Policy for students attending the institution .

The policy was agreed at the regular monthly meeting of the committee, held in the Council Room at Mona on Monday, November 22, 2004.

Essentials of Entrepreneurship Course at UWI, Mona

The Department of Management Studies at UWI, Mona will host a course called the Essentials of Entrepreneurship and Business Management to provide structured and systematic training to meet the on-going needs of Jamaican businesses.

The programme is designed for persons interested in starting or already operating small to medium-sized businesses and for persons involved in the management of such businesses.

CREDIT UNION OFFERS SPECIAL STUDENT LOAN SCHEME

Students who are currently indebted to The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus for the 2003/2004 academic year are advised that they can now access a “special” loan facility at the UWI (Mona) and Community Cooperative Credit Union Limited to secure funds to settle outstanding fees.

Students who wish to apply for these loans must proceed as follows:

(i) Submit a loan application to the UWI Credit Union no later than December 5, 2004. Simultaneously, students should also apply to the Credit Union for membership.

Norma Amenu-Kpodo, Appointed New UWI,

The University of the West Indies is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Norma Amenu-Kpodo, former Deputy Campus Librarian to the post of Campus Librarian at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, effective October 1, 2004. She succeeds former Campus and University Librarian Stephney Ferguson who retired at the end of September 2004.

THELORA REYNOLDS RECEIVES DIAMOND HONOREE AWARD

Director of the Office of Student Services at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Dr. Thelora Reynolds, has been selected as a Diamond Honoree of the Educational Leadership Foundation of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). The award recognizes her many contributions to higher education and to the association which is one of the largest and most prestigious national associations dedicated to student affairs and services on college campuses across the United States and the world.
