Advent Fellowship

The Advent Fellowship UWI presents a dramatic session entitled “War, Wanton and Woe” on March 21 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, on April 1 at Montego Bay Community College, Montego Bay and on April 8 at the Mandeville SDA Church Hall, Mandeville. Admission is $500, students with ID $350 and children $150. Starting time is 7:30 p.m. each evening. For further information, contact Franklyn Wright at 896-0961 or Saschoy Ellis at 893-1993.

CARIMAC Entrance Test for Admission in September 2006

Applicants to the University of the West Indies who are interested in pursuing the Media and Communication major as well as current UWI students wishing to transfer from other majors are required to sit an entrance test for entry into the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC). The test will be administered on Friday, April 7 from 10.00 a.m. to 12 noon at the UWI Assembly Hall, for St Andrew and surrounding parishes, and at the Montego Bay Community College, for persons in St James and surrounding parishes.

Collection of Examination Cards

Students of the University of the West Indies who are sitting second semester examinations during April to June 2006 are asked to collect their examination cards at the Undercroft of the Senate Building, effective Monday, March 27. Candidates in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences may collect their cards on Monday, March 27; those in the Faculty of Humanities and Education may collect cards on Tuesday, March 28; students in the Social Sciences should collect cards on Wednesday, March 29 and those in Medical Sciences on Thursday, March 30. Collection will take place between 9:00 a.m.

LACC

The Latin American Caribbean Centre, UWI will host the Mexican Ambassador to Jamaica, Sra. Leonora Rueda, who will be speaking on The Legacy of Benito Juarez: "El Benemerito de las Americas" (Patriot of the Americas) on March 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in GLT 3 (McIntyre Building). The presentation will be in English. All are invited.

Yoga and Stress Management

The Wellness Task Force presents a lecture entitled Yoga and Stress Management on Thursday, March 16 at 4:00 p.m. in the Physiology Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, UWI. The lecture will be delivered by Professor Omkar Prashad, Department of Basic Medical Sciences.

Circle K Club

The Circle K Club at the UWI Mona Campus will host an Awards Ceremony for winners of its Art competition on Thursday, March 9 at 3.00 p.m. The Competition was organized by the UWI Circle K Club as one of its service projects for the year under the theme ‘Creating a Healthier and Safer Jamaica for All’. Children from five primary schools in the corporate area have participated in the art competition. They are from August Town Primary, Gordon Town Primary, Mona Primary, Mountain View Primary and the Hope Valley Experimental School.

Professor Owen Morgan

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Department of Medicine will pay tribute to Professor Owen Morgan on Thursday, March 9 at 8.30 a.m. in the Main Medical Lecture Theater.
The tribute will take the form of two Scientific Sessions to highlight research work on HTLV-1 (Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus) which is endemic in the Caribbean and Japan. Scientific papers will be presented by members of the Medical Faculty.

52nd Staging of the Annual Intramural Track

The 52nd staging of the Annual Intramural Track and Field Competition at UWI Mona Campus takes place at the Mona Bowl on Thursday, March 9, and Thursday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. each day. This event is organized by the Sports Unit and the Guild of Students, Mona. Interested persons are invited to attend.

Caribbean Journal of Education

The most recent edition of the Caribbean Journal of Education (Vol. 26 nos.1 and 2) is now available. This special double issue is in honour of Prof. Errol Miller and features a review of his book “The Prophet and the Virgin”, by former Principal of the UWI Mona Campus and Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Kenneth Hall, as well as tributes by the Minister of Education, the Hon. Maxine Henry-Wilson, Professor Emeritus Rex Nettleford and many others.

Mona Campus Council Meeting

The meeting of the Mona Campus Council will be held on Friday, March 10 in the Council Room at the Campus.
