UWI Honours Professor Errol Miller
The Institute of Education in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI recently hosted a farewell luncheon in honour of Professor the Hon. Errol Miller who has retired from the UWI after over twenty-five years of service.
Annual Bob Marley Lecture
The Reggae Studies Unit will host the Annual Bob Marley Lecture on Friday February 17, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30p.m. in the Social Science Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Social Sciences. The lecture will be delivered by Professor Frederick Hickling and is entitled '”Wi Never Know Wi Woulda Reach Dis Far": The Psychology of Stardom in Jamaican Popular Culture.' Interested persons are invited to attend.
Annual Intimate Relationships Series
The Counselling Service Annual Intimate Relationships series will continue on February 9, 16 and 23 (Thursdays) at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) Faculty of Humanities and Education from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Topics to be covered include: Choosing to be involved in an Intimate Relationship; What should I look for in a partner? How can I tell if it is true love or just infatuation? Sex and Romance, When is it the right time for sex? Does romance always fade or can we keep ours alive? Handling Conflicts and Break-ups, Is conflict a sign of a poor relationship?
Career Awareness Month
Placement and Career Services will host its annual Career Awareness Month in February 2006 under the theme 'Technology: The Gateway to Regional Employment'. Below is the schedule of the remaining events: Mock Interviews on Thursday February 9 and 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon respectively at the Assembly Hall.
Caribbean Virtual Disaster Library
The Caribbean Virtual Disaster Library was launched on Friday, January 27 by Professor Ronald Young, Dean, Faculty, Pure and Applied Sciences.
CARIMAC Alumni Association 4th Annual General Meeting
The CARIMAC Alumni Association will host its 4th Annual General Meeting on Saturday, February 18, 2006 on the lawns of CARIMAC starting at 5pm. Graduates of the Institute are being invited to participate in discussions about projects that will be undertaken during the course of the year as part of the Association's calendar of events for 2006.
Colombian Film Cycle
The Latin American-Caribbean Centre (LACC) in association with the Embassy of Colombia will present "El Carro", the first in the Colombian film cycle for 2006 on Friday, February 24, in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) in the Department of Humanities and Education, UWI, Mona Campus starting at 7:00 p.m. Wine will be served from 6:30pm. Commemoration Celebrations
Preparations are in high gear for the Annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week at the UWI Mona Campus, which will take place from February 16 - 24. The activities will be dedicated to Professor the Hon. Leslie Robinson a founding member of the then University College of West Indies in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the teaching of Mathematics at the institution and his overall involvement in the life of the University as Pro Vice Chancellor, the first Principal of the Mona Campus and Director of Planning.
Cynthia Royal
The University of the West Indies, Mona extends condolences to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Cynthia Royal, retired Secretary, Faculty of Humanities and Education (then Faculty of Arts and Education). Mrs. Royal died on Tuesday, January 24.
Latinos in the United States
The Department of Literatures in English will host the Film Series 'LATINOS in the UNITED STATES' during Semester II, 2006. Films will be shown each Friday at 11 a.m. in N4 in the Faculty of Humanities Education, UWI-Mona. The series is hosted by Dr. Gregory Stephens, Lecturer of Cultural Studies and Film, in association with E21h (Modern American Literary Prose); Special 2006 Topic: U.S. Caribbean & Latin American Immigrant Literature.
