University Players win four Actor Boy Awards
Staff Tutor in Drama at the Philip Sherlock Centre, Brian Heap became a third time recipient of the International Theatre Institute, Jamaica Chapter’s Actor Boy Award for Best Director at the Annual Actor Boy Awards ceremony held at the Little Theatre on March 28. This time the Best Director Award was presented for his work with the University Players’ production “The Black that I am”, which also received awards in three other categories. UWI Lecturer accepted as Fellow of the FAIMER Institute 2006
Dr Tomlin Paul, lecturer in the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry has been accepted as a Fellow to the prestigious FAIMER Institute. The Institute is a non-profit Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research. Based in Philadelphia, USA, the Institute will host 16 Fellows with outstanding credentials in medical education over the next two years to a mixed residential and distance learning experience. The programme covers advanced leadership, management and education issues.
Caribbean Trade Network
The Caribbean Trade Network invites relevant research proposals aimed at filling the knowledge gaps in critical areas for formulating and implementing trade and other policies germane to the integration of Caribbean economies. The proposals should include competitive non-tourism services, to be considered for funding. The Caribbean Trade Network has been established by the International Development Research Centre, in conjunction with the UWI St. Augustine’s Graduate Institute of International Relations. The deadline for the receipt of proposals is Monday, May 15.
Closure of the UWI Health Centre
The UWI Health Centre will be closed on Thursday April 6, from 2:00 p.m. in order to facilitate activities related to World Health Day. During this time, emergencies may be directed to the University Hospital. The University apologises for any inconvenience occasioned by this arrangement.
Conference on Reproductive Health, our Mutual Responsibility
The Advanced Training and Research in Fertility Management, Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI Reproductive Health Conference will take place from October 26-28, 2006 at the Knutsford Court Hotel, 16 Chelsea Avenue, New Kingston. The theme for the conference is “Reproductive Health, Our Mutual Responsibility.”
Forum on Education
The School of Education will host its forum on Education on Tuesday, April 25 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The topic will be ‘Teachers at Risk?
Parking on the Mona Campus
The Security Committee is reminding all that, by law, parking on the Mona Campus is permitted in designated areas only, with a fine of $3000 for anyone parking in a place not designated. Logically, spaces reserved specifically for an officer or Office or Department cannot be used by other persons, nor can a vehicle take up more than one parking space without being in breach. You are advised to observe the parking regulations on Campus.
Professor Fay Durrant Elected Vice President IFAP
Head of the Department of Library and Information Studies, Professor Fay Durrant, has been elected Vice President of the Intergovernmental Council for the United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization’s Information for All Programme (IFAP). Professor Durrant was elected to the position by the representatives of the Council’s 26 Member States who met in Paris from March 20 -23.
Public Lecture
The Department of Library and Information Studies at the UWI Mona Campus invites all Archivists, Records Managers, Librarians, Information managers and other interested persons to a public lecture entitled “Privacy and Confidentiality in Archives and Records Management’. The lecture will take place on Thursday, April 6 in the Multifunctional Room of the Main Library. It will be delivered by Visiting Professor Carole Compton-Smith, who is Director, Learning Resources at Douglas College, British Columbia.
Student Awards Ceremony
The University Student Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. At this ceremony, the University will honour students of the Mona Campus who have performed outstandingly in co-curricular activities and will also recognize students who have been awarded scholarships and bursaries. The guest speaker at the ceremony will be Miss Paula Llewelyn, Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
