Future Leadership Jamaican Diaspora Conference to be held at UWI, Mona
Youth leaders from Jamaica and the Diaspora will converge on the UWI, Mona Campus from August 4-10, 2009 for the Future Leadership Jamaican Diaspora Conference to be held at the Mona Visitors Lodge and Conference Centre.
8th William Dennis Memorial Lecture

The 8th annual William Dennis Memorial Lecture takes place on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 5 pm at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. For this year two lectures will be delivered by UWI, Mona academics: Professor Terrance Forrester, Head, Tropical Medicine Research Institute, University of the West Indies and Dr. Tomlin Paul, Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Senior Lecturer, Community Health and Psychiatry.
Professor Forrester’s lecture is titled, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Disease: How Far back for the Answer? His lecture will explore the links between metabolism, body composition, insulin resistance and hypertension.
UWI Summer Football Mania
The University of the West Indies, Mona through the Sport Unit in the Office of Student Services and Development hosts the second annual UWI Summer Football Mania, themed “Unearthing Talent”. The camp is scheduled for July 20 – 31, 2009 at the UWI Mona Bowl. The Camp offers technical and tactical training that is supplemented with video presentations and recreational activities for children ages nine to seventeen years. Scholarships will be offered to youth in the August Town community as part of the Sports Unit’s community outreach programme.
PM to Open Caribbean Regional Environment Conference at UWI, Mona

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Honourable Bruce Golding, will open the Caribbean Regional Conference on the Environment on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 9 am at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona. The Conference is being held under the theme, “Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice and Policy” on July 7-8, 2009.
Caribbean Culture and Media

The University of the West Indies, through the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), Mona and the International Programmes Unit, Office of Administration, is partnering with Clark Atlanta University (CAU) to stage the inaugural Caribbean Culture and Media Conference. The conference themed, New Technologies: Media and Communication in a Cultural Context takes place from July 6-8, 2009 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona.
Local and overseas presenters will share at the Conference on topics including the Convergence of Politics, Culture and Media; Converged Media and Caribbean History; New Media Technologies and Visual Storytelling.
UWI and CXC Signs MOU

The School of Education at the University of the West Indies, Mona and the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on educational measurement. The Signing takes place on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 10 am at the Open Campus Learning Resource Centre (OCLRC) Conference Room formerly UWI Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC) located on the Mona Campus.
Early Childhood Development Expo

The Dudley Grant Memorial Trust hosts the Early Childhood 2009 Development Expo on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Jamaica Pegasus. The Expo showcases products and services in areas of teaching/ learning materials, health, safety, nutrition and outdoor play equipment.
Admission for adults is J $200 and children J $100. The public is invited.
Caribbean Business Renewal Conference

'Providing Strategic and Sustainable Solutions for Public and Private Sector Organizations is the theme of the first Caribbean Business Renewal Conference being organized by the Mona School of Business (MSB) at UWI. The Conference is scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2009 starting at 8:30 am at the Knutsford Court Hotel.

The Mona School of Business, UWI, Mona hosts a one-day business conference, the first in the Caribbean Business Renewal Conference series under the theme 'Providing Strategic and Sustainable Solutions for Public and Private Sector Organizations'. It takes place on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Knutsford Court Hotel.
This forum is designed to cover a range of multidisciplinary approaches that will provides participants with an opportunity to explore, collaborate, and share their thoughts on a broad range of issues. Topics to be addressed include: Business and Finance, Trade and Investment, Tourism and Marketing, Crime, Law and Justice and Environmental and Sustainable Practices.
