Mona Team Heads to Trinidad to Participate in UWI Games 2009
UWI, Mona, reigning UWI Games champion, heads to the UWI, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad on Wednesday, May 20 to participate in the biennial UWI Games. The student Games is rotated among the three main UWI campuses and is scheduled for May 21-28, 2009 at the UWI St Augustine Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC), St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad.
The Games will be formally opened on Thursday, May 21, 2009 by Deputy Principal, UWI, St. Augustine, Professor Rhoda Reddock in an official ceremony at the UWI SPEC.
Admission to the Online Masters in Education
The School of Education invites applications for the Masters of Arts in Higher Education: Student Personnel Administration. Applications must be made on line at www.mona.uwi.edu/postgrad. Application deadline is May 29, 2009.
Applicants are required to possess a Bachelors degree with honours from an approved institution, be computer literate and meet Faculty requirements.
Conference on the Environment
‘Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice and Policy’ is the theme of the regional environmental conference being organised as part of the Environmental Management programme at the UWI, Mona. The Conference is scheduled for July 7-8, 2009 at UWI, Mona.
The Conference seeks to offer a forum in which perspectives and issues surrounding environmental research, practice and the formulation and implementation of policy can be shared and discussed.
Summer Course in Japanese

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures through the Language Lab at UWI, Mona hosts a Summer Course in Japanese from May 18 to June 11. The class is scheduled for Monday – Thursday from 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m, totaling 30 hours. The course cost is J$6500.00 and Registration Fee of J$300.00 registration fee.

Student Leaders’ Workshop
The Office of Student Services and Development at UWI, Mona hosts its annual UWI Student Leaders Workshop on May 18-19, 2009 at Interfaculty Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona. The agenda includes presentations and discussion on a variety of topics such as team building, managing conflict, communication, the role and expectations of the student leader and protocol.
The workshop is geared towards fostering the requisite leadership skills among UWI student leaders in order to facilitate effective leadership. All student leaders are required to attend.
“Africa and her Challenge to Philosophy”
The Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy hosts a public lecture entitled, “Africa and her Challenge to Philosophy” on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 5 pm at the Multifunctional Room, UWI, Mona. The lecture will be delivered Professor Olufemi Taiwo, Professor of Philosophy and Global African Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, Seattle University, USA and Visiting Professor of the Department.
Expression of Interest - Denbigh Agricultural Show
The University of the West Indies will be participating in the 2009 Denbigh Agricultural show hosted by the Jamaica Agricultural Society from July 31 – August 2, 2009. The University will be showcasing its work on “Food Security and Innovations in Science and Technology for Agricultural Development.” Persons interest in participating in the University’s presentation are being invited to send an expression of interest to the following email address: agricultureconference@gmail.com by no later than Friday, May 15, 2009.
Swine Influenza Advisory
The University Community is advised to be on the alert. Swine Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory disease originally found in pigs and now reported in humans.
Jamaica is at risk for the spread of this disease and particularly so for the University Community due to the frequent movement of persons within the region. Your cooperation is required in adhering to the following guidelines:-
