Caribbean Graduates Conference
UWI students and graduates are invited to attend the Caribbean Graduates Conference, to be hosted by the Students Christian Fellowship Scripture Union/Inter-Students Christian Fellowship Graduate Ministry on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
Registration will take place at the Jamaica Pegasus between 5 and 6 p.m. on Friday, April 8, followed by cocktails and the Opening Plenary with Dr. Mee-Yan Cheung-Judge, a UK-based specialist in positive change, who has served over 200 clients including the British Broadcasting Corporation and Shell Company.
Chancellor Hall’s Super Lion Award
The Prime Minister of St. Lucia, Hon. Kenny Anthony, who is a graduate of the UWI Mona and a past resident of Chancellor Hall has accepted the invitation of the Organising Committee to be the Keynote Speaker at the 2005 Super Lion Award’s Banquet at the Mona Visitor’s Lodge and Conference Centre on Friday, April 8 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Prime Minister Anthony is one of four past residents of Chancellor Hall who have become outstanding Caribbean leaders and Prime Ministers of their respective countries.
Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture
The Annual Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture hosted by the Department of History and Archaeology at the UWI Mona Campus is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 6 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, beginning at 5.00 p.m. The lecturer will be Professor Alvin Thompson, Professor of Caribbean History at the UWI Cave Hill Campus. He will speak on the topic Maroon Struggles and the Ideology of Freedom. Interested persons are invited to attend.
National Health Fund & Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme
The University Health Centre Pharmacy is a provider under the National Health Fund (NHF), and the Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme (JADEP). These programmes are run by the Ministry of Health, which collaborates with participating pharmacies to assist individuals to pay for prescription drugs for specific illnesses.

Physics Week includes Open Day for High Schools
In commemoration of the World Year of Physics, the Department of Physics, Mona will host Physics Week from April 4-8.
On Monday, April 4 activities kick off with the launch of an exhibition on “A Century of Physics” and “Research in the Department of Physics” at the red brick patio in the Department.
Postgraduate Programmes
The Office of Graduate Studies and Research invites applications for the following graduate programmes which are now open: the Doctor of Medicine (DM); MPhil and PhD in all faculties, for acceptance in January 2006. The closing date for application for both programmes is April 30. Applications are also invited for the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) for acceptance in September 2005. The closing date for application for this programme is April 15.
Research Ethics Conference
The Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies and the University of Miami Bioethics Programme in association with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the National Health Fund (NHF) will be presenting a conference on Research Ethics from April 28-30. The theme is “Research Ethics a Global Concern – Regional Solutions”.
The objectives of the conference are: to build awareness of the importance of research ethics across the broad spectrum of research activity and to lend support to or encourage the creation of Ethics Review Committees.
Sexuality Workshop
The University of the West Indies, Mona, Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work Clinical Psychology Programme will host a Sexuality Workshop under the theme Understanding Sexuality and its Relation to Psychology on April 16 from10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at GLT 3 in the Faculty of Social Sciences, UWI, Mona. Presenters will be Dr. Sidney McGill, Family Counseling Centre of Jamaica and Dr. Robert Carr, Jamaica AIDS Support.
UWIHARP Call for Papers
The University of the West Indies HIV/AIDS Response Programme (UWIHARP) will hold its third annual Scientific and Business Conference from May 5-8 at the Sherbourne Conference Centre in Barbados. The theme of the conference is ‘Towards a Strategic Framework for HIV/AIDS Research in the Caribbean; Emphasizing Behaviour Change’. Discussion will focus on a range of topics including children and adolescent issues; gender, sexuality and power and the ethics of HIV/AIDS related research in the Caribbean.
Annual Valedictory Service
The Annual Valedictory Service for the Final Year students of the Mona Campus will be held in the University Chapel on Sunday, April 10 at 9:00 a.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Livingston Thompson and Pastor Manley Phillips will deliver the sermon.
