Themed Entertainment Events

In order to successfully resonate with persons of different ages, the Herculean task of powering national and regional development has to be approached from different angles and must utilize different techniques. One of the angles that is being fully explored in this 2014 staging of The UWI Mona’s Research Days, is that of popular entertainment as an avenue to the youth. The UWI students in particular are being engaged in two main ways: A historic No-Maddz performance tour that will close the Tent exhibition and a series of daily lunch hour concerts focussing on the event themes.

 The No-Maddz Concert/Tour

Known for their revolutionary ‘reasonings’ and hard hitting lyrics, popular performing group No-Maddz has been contracted to conduct a special first-of-its-kind Research Tour/Concert at 3pm on Friday, 21st February. The tour will see the group visiting the exhibits and holding on the spot discussions and performances at different points throughout the exposition. The multi-award winning dub poetry group comprising of  Sheldon Shepherd, Everaldo "Evie" Creary , Christopher "Birdheye" Gordon, and O'neil Peart, will be creating lyrics specifically for the occasion, that deal with the issues and projects on display surrounding the 2014 Research Days theme of Fostering Growth and Development in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) through Research.

The Lunch Hour Concerts

The traditional lunch-hour concert concept has been reworked to better correspond to the other activities under the main exhibition tent and in the various faculty displays. This year’s slate of performers continues the trend of including University students and graduates, however unlike previous years where the concerts presented a potpourri of themes based on personal preference, patrons can expect to be engaged in an entertaining way about the various the issues under exploration in the 2014 theme: Fostering Growth and Development in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) through Research. As is usual, the concerts will be held under the Undercroft, just outside the entrance to the main tent display
