B.ED. COMPUTER SCIENCE (not offered for 2023/24 Academic Year)

Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Education in Information Technology/ Computer Science is a professional degree which is normally intended for practitioners in the field of education. This degree will be awarded to persons who, having satisfactorily completed the programme of study and have satisfied the examiners as set out under one of the following schemes.

Objectives

The programme aims to address the needs of the Caribbean region and produce graduates who have been exposed to experiences that will prepare them to address the information processing requirements of organizations. It is designed to meet the ever changing and evolving needs of teachers of Computer Science, and to stimulate their commitment to lifelong learning. It seeks also to sharpen their awareness of the need to be in the forefront of development and change in education if they are to remain relevant in the classroom.

The programme is therefore not an end in itself. It will equip teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills and disposition to enable them to engage in independent learning, and on-going research. It will also foster in teachers a willingness to seek out, respond to and participate in professional development opportunities.
