Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Education in Language Education is a professional degree which is normally intended for practitioners in the field of education. This degree will be awarded to persons who, having satisfactorily completed the programme of study and have satisfied the examiners as set out under one of the following schemes.
Objectives
The programme is designed to meet the personal pedagogical and professional development needs of beginning and practicing teachers of English. It reflects sensitivity towards the issues, challenges and possibilities in content and pedagogy in the teaching of English and the development of Literacy in Caribbean contexts.
The combination of courses in school-based settings and professional development in school related contexts will undoubtedly produce a cadre of teachers of English to meet the instructional needs in our education system. These courses are also aimed at developing the awareness, sharpening the skills, and raising the levels of competence in teaching approaches and methods, research and innovation in language and literature education.
Students focus on the Foundations of Education and Educational Theory and Professional Specialization Courses in the School of Education and pursue content courses in Language, Literature and Linguistics from the Departments of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy and Literatures in English in the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
