Mathematics teachers in the Caribbean will welcome this revision text. It is comprehensive in its coverage of the topics of the Basic and General Proficiency syllabuses of the CXC. The text is profusely illustrated. The three dimensional diagrams are clear and expertly drawn. Particularly noteworthy in these respects is the chapter on “Orthographic Projection”. Teaching mathematics successfully is a rare phenomenon in our schools, particularly in our primary schools where most of the teachers feel inadequate for the task. Many of them are aware of their limitations and would very much like to have some guidance as to how to do a better job. Most of the books on the pedagogy of mathematics seem to them to deal with ideal situations not applicable to their classes, or to reflect a theoretical viewpoint which is unrelated to the realities of the everyday classroom.
