Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit (ED&I Unit)

The UWI HIV and AIDS Response Programme (UWI HARP), the most suitable unit to undertake the ED&I mandate given the leadership and years of expertise and preparation of its team, was renamed the ED&I Unit on the Mona campus, with responsibility for developing, facilitating and monitoring procedures and practices of the ED&I Policy as of August 1, 2020.

UWI Mona, through the work of the UWI Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) Unit, will engage in activities and processes to transform the UWI into a space that embraces the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion - “an environment which promotes diversity in all aspects of its day-to-day life and to integrate the principles of equal treatment and inclusiveness in the life of the UWI” (UWI Policy for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion [Draft]). By embracing these principles UWI will be in line with global standards.

The mandate of the ED&I Unit, supported by an assigned Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Technical Advisory Group (ED&I TAG), is to facilitate and enable the procedures and practices that will operationalize the ED&I Policy across the campus. The Unit will develop, through a consultative process with UWI stakeholders, an Implementation Plan which provides the overarching framework that guides the operationalization of the Policy; and will ensure that policies, systems and processes remain up to date with the agreed standards expressed in the ED&I Policy.

The ED&I Policy is currently in the drafting and approval process and will be shared once finalized. To engage with the ED&I Unit you may send an email to ediunit@uwimona.edu.jm
