ABOUT US: THE STUDY
Neonatal & Parent Support
Questions from the Neonatal sub-study were designed to investigate the causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality in Jamaica. As the name suggests, information for these questions were received during the neonatal period, which is the child’s first twenty eight days of life. The questionnaires were completed for every child admitted to a ‘nursery’ across the island. A questionnaire was completed for the child each time he/she was admitted during the neonatal period. JA KIDS was able to collect information on approximately 2000 neonatal admissions across the island.
Another exciting JA KIDS’ sub-study is the Parent Support, which was done in conjunction with the Parenting Partners Caribbean. Approximately 130 families participated in this sub-study. Mothers with babies who were admitted into a hospital since the birth of the baby were asked a short set of questions during the 9 – 12 month contact. This sub-study’s aim was to determine how satisfied mothers were with the services, and overall treatment they received.
