CSGM Celebrates 30th Anniversary at the JPS Foundation Climate Action Conference and Expo

The Climate Studies Group Mona (CSGM), a leading research hub within the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology at The UWI Mona, participated in the JPS Foundation Climate Action Conference and Expo held on November 30, 2024, at the Chinese Benevolent Association in Kingston. This event, marking a significant milestone for CSGM in its 30th anniversary celebrations, offered an excellent platform to highlight the group's ongoing contributions to climate teaching, research and sustainability efforts.

During the Expo, CSGM showcased its impressive array of achievements over the past three decades, including groundbreaking research, academic publications, and the development of climate tools designed to tackle urgent environmental challenges. The group also engaged with attendees through a variety of interactive activities aimed at increasing public awareness of climate change and sustainability.

Dr. Jayaka Campbell, Lecturer, and Climate Modeler, CSGM was also a key contributor to the panel discussion, Career Chat: Opportunities in Climate and Sustainability. This session offered valuable insights into the diverse career paths emerging in the fields of climate science, sustainability, and environmental policy. Dr. Campbell highlighted the critical need for skilled professionals in tackling climate challenges, emphasizing the importance of innovation, research, and cross-disciplinary collaboration in driving meaningful change. Physics alumni and JPS Foundation edrive project interns Ms. Shalise Petrie, Mr. Kevaughn Williams, and Mr. Andre Cunningham played a vital role in assisting with the JPS’s e-mobility booth.
