In a heartwarming gesture celebrating their upcoming union, graduate students Lance Scott from the Department of Geography and Geology and Leneka Rhoden from the Department of Life Sciences at the Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, Mona, have established the Scottland Scholarship Fund. This initiative demonstrates their commitment to giving back to the community that has shaped their educational journeys.
The scholarship, valued at JMD 60,000, will be awarded to two deserving recipients, with each student receiving JMD 30,000 to support their educational aspirations. It is open to secondary students in 4th to 6th forms from St. Catherine High School and Queen’s High School, providing an opportunity for young scholars to further their studies and pursue their dreams.
Scott and Rhoden believe in the transformative power of education and the importance of supporting the next generation. "We want to give back to the community that has given us so much," said Leneka. "This scholarship is our way of helping students who show promise and ambition, allowing them to focus on their studies without the added financial burden."
The application process is straightforward, with interested students encouraged to submit their applications to lenekascott@gmail.com. The deadline for applications is October 18, 2024.
