Mr Matthew Williams, a graduate student in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies, Mona, attended the CMIP 2026 Community Workshop Conference in Kyoto, Japan, from March 9–13, 2026. The conference covered the latest in Earth system and coupled modelling. A poster entitled “Assessing WRF-Downscaled Wind and Solar Data in the Caribbean: GeoMIP G4 vs RCP4.5” was presented.

Mr Williams also took part in a World Café dialogue session titled “Evaluating and Selecting Climate Model Output for Regional Downscaling Applications: A Value Chain Assessment from CMIP to Climate Impact Use.” In this session, global and regional climate model developers, users and impact modellers formed groups to discuss their regions of interest.
Mr Williams collaborated with researchers from South America to identify and submit key considerations to the conveners, focusing on developing systematic approaches for evaluating how well global and regional climate models represented the critical climate systems relevant to Latin America and the Caribbean.
