On November 28, 2024, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), in collaboration with the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) and the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), hosted the second staging of the UWI Health and Wellness Expo. This event, held to commemorate the contributions of Technical and Service staff, also served the wider UWI community by promoting health and wellness on campus.The primary goals of the Expo were to: promote healthy lifestyles among staff and students, highlight available health and wellness services and how to access them and showcase healthy food options for balanced living.

With 26 health-related institutions from the government, academic, and private sectors participating, the Expo offered a comprehensive look at the various health and wellness resources available to the UWI community. Attendees had the opportunity to access a range of free health checks, including: dental checks and cleaning; BMI measurements; blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks; hemoglobin tests.

In addition to these health screenings, there were a variety of interactive wellness sessions, including yoga classes, exercise demonstrations, and hair and scalp analysis. The Expo also provided valuable information on financing one’s health, helping attendees understand how to budget for long-term health and wellness.

A special highlight of the day was the announcement of the FST Unsung Hero Awards 2024. These awards were presented during a ceremony that recognized outstanding Technical and Service staff who have made exceptional contributions to the Faculty. The recipients of the awards were celebrated for their dedication and hard work, often behind the scenes, making significant impacts on the department and the UWI community. The recipients are:
