The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, proudly celebrated the achievements of its Graduating Class of 2024 at a Graduation Ceremony on November 1, 2024, and recognized the outstanding accomplishments of its students and staff at the Annual Faculty Awards Ceremony on November 7, 2024. This year’s graduation ceremony saw 437 Bachelor of Science graduates, along with 71 Master of Science, 7 Master of Philosophy, and 9 Doctor of Philosophy graduates receiving their degrees, symbolizing a new wave of STEM professionals ready to address pressing challenges in environmental sustainability, healthcare, and technological innovation.
A highlight of the ceremony was the conferral of an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree upon Dr. Conrad Douglas, a distinguished FST alum. Dr. Douglas was recognized for his transformative contributions to Jamaica’s bauxite industry, which have saved the country millions of dollars and helped sustain critical international partnerships. His accomplishments reflect FST’s commitment to nurturing leaders in science and technology and advancing economic and industrial progress.
STEM graduates play a vital role in driving economic growth, fostering scientific advancements, and enhancing the quality of life across communities. The Class of 2024 is well-prepared to tackle the complexities of our modern world and joins a prestigious legacy of UWI alumni making meaningful impacts across the Caribbean and beyond.
Continuing the spirit of excellence, the FST hosted its Annual Faculty Awards Ceremony on November 7, 2024, honoring both students and staff for their exceptional efforts over the 2023/2024 academic year. High-achieving students were celebrated across multiple categories, including First Class Honours (57), Dean’s Honour Roll (Undergraduates - 70; Postgraduates - 35), Academic Commendations (Undergrad - 167; Postgraduate - 32), MSc with Distinction (16), Departmental Prizes (59), and other Special Awards (21). Faculty members were also acknowledged for their dedication to academic, administrative (2), technical (1), and service (1) excellence, contributing to the advancement of the faculty’s mission and vision. Of notable mention is Rahiem Lampart (BSc Computer Science), who was honored for graduating with the highest GPA of 4.10.
