For Mr Damion Whyte, Terrestrial Biologist and Assistant Lecturer in the Fcaulty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, Mona, the study of wildlife and the environment is closely tied to the future of the Caribbean. His work has been shaped by an interest in the region’s natural heritage and the responsibility to understand and protect it.

 

That work has now brought a new opportunity. Mr Whyte has been invited to join the Centre for Caribbean Studies at the University of Toronto as an Affiliate Faculty Member.

Based at New College, the Centre brings together researchers, students and community partners whose work examines the Caribbean from a range of perspectives. It also offers Minor, Major and Specialist undergraduate programmes in Caribbean Studies.

Mr. Whyte’s affiliation will place his work within this wider community of Caribbean and International scholars. He will receive invitations to the Centre’s lectures, conferences and workshops and may contribute to research projects, guest lectures, student activities and curriculum discussions when areas of mutual interest arise.

The invitation provides another avenue for Dr. Whyte to share his knowledge of wildlife and environmental conservation while contributing to wider discussions about the Caribbean and its future.

The Faculty of Science and Technology congratulates Mr.Whyte and looks forward to the opportunities that may grow from this new connection.
