The CariSurg Institute MedTech Pathways Information Session was hosted on February 26, 2026, bringing together students, faculty, and international partners to learn more about emerging opportunities in medical technology and innovation.
Now in its second year, this information initiative was established in 2024 by Dr. Carl Beckford and Dr. Sean Miller of the Department of Computing, Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. The initiative was expanded to include students from the Faculty of Engineering. The programme is coordinated through CariSurg CIC, a not-for-profit, Caribbean-led Community Interest Company dedicated to advancing surgical robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and context-appropriate medical technology. Through training, research, and regional capacity building, the organisation works to strengthen healthcare innovation across the Caribbean, reinvesting all resources into public benefit initiatives.

The information session was designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the MedTech Pathways programme, including details on the application process, eligibility requirements, and the opportunities available to participants. Representatives from the University of Leeds and three.
Their involvement gave prospective applicants the opportunity to hear directly from institutional representatives about the structure of the programme, expectations for participants, and the collaborative research and training opportunities available through the partnership. Students also engaged in a question-and-answer segment, allowing them to gain clearer insight into the steps involved in preparing and submitting a successful application.
