JamCoder Alum Gives Back

The JamCoders Summer Camp continues to leave a lasting mark on the lives of young Jamaicans. One shining example is Tsenaye Lewis, who participated in the 2023 camp. The experience was transformational, sparking her passion for coding and inspiring her to sit Computer Science at the CAPE level, where she proudly earned a Grade One.

In recognition of the camp’s impact, Tsenaye’s mother, Klao Bell-Lewis, organized a fundraising drive. Their efforts resulted in a generous donation of JMD $500,000 to JamCoders, a powerful act of giving back that will help other students benefit from the same life-changing opportunity.

JamCoders is possible because of the kind support of individuals and groups who believe in the future of our youth.

Hosted by The UWI Mona Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) in Kingston, Jamaica, and supported by reggae artiste Jamar 'Chronixx' Haughton, Prof. Jelani Nelson from UC Berkeley, and members of the Caribbean diaspora, JamCoders is an annual summer camp focused on algorithms and programming for high school students. Since its inception, the camp has impacted nearly 200 students from across Jamaica, equipping them with valuable skills in computer science, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and other areas of personal and academic growth.
